This black border shows the difference in the size of the image in the old 35mm film format and the digital image of today. The point of the filed out negative carrier was proof of a un-cropped image and a badge of a great planned composition. Today I just point in shoot since I’m minus the view finder then I correct it later. I do have the image imbedded in my mind that I’m striving for. Things sure have changed. The images below are from my personal enlarger from way back when.

Here I have cropped a photo of Pete Cornell with his curved soprano saxophone. Wish I had a better camera at the time. This border has a whole new use in photoshop. Sorry purest.

i always loved those scratchy black borders on my photos. i never really thought of them as proof of anything, just liked the way they looked. i still prefer black and white film above all else. T max rules!
The bulkier enlarger’s at school had a heavier metal carrier that played with the light more, they were all different. It was proof you had enlarged the whole negative with out cropping it. It was actually what was on the original frame (negative).
Here’s one I extended the knee outside the frame using photoshop.
p.s. I’m back to normal now by just using GUAIFENESIN. It seems in the past I’ve grabbed other cold medicines out of the medicine chest that have just done harm by drying me out. It’s cheap too if you find the generic, I can’t believe Mucinex adds unneeded additives to the mix and up’s the price by 5 times. Sometimes I’m a stupid American too. I still have the Afrin from my sinus surgery and break down and use it when I get a bad cold. This has been the first time I been able to just stop using it with no problem. My sinuses feel great also. I feel like an idiot that the cold medicine has been doing me in all these years. I feel like writing Dr. Oz.
Thanks again! crashing with severe asthma is the most un-fun thing that most people don’t understand unless they experience. I’ve had a couple of colds the last five years since I’ve had this problem but not like this one. My sinuses being perfect has me really upbeat.
Yeah. Glad it worked. I also buy the cheap stuff in pill form cuz my son hates syrups.Did you start taking Vitamin D? That is really important to help fight off getting sick. I buy drops at the heathfood store and make my husband and son take them too. Lots of recent evidence that d supliment in the winter helps prevent.My doc recomends all year due to sunscrean blocking its absorbtion.
