CITY OF RICHMOND 2?

city-of-richmond-2b

CITY OF RICHMOND ARRIVES in Baltimore after ramming sister ship.

They called the night of Feb. 24 1927 one of the foggiest nights ever on Chesapeake Bay. The bay was crowded with all types of vessels and in those pre-radar days, fog presented a hazard on the Chesapeake far worse than those experienced on the relatively uncluttered high seas. That night found the Chesapeake Line steamer CITY OF ANNAPOLIS northbound from West Point , VA. to Baltimore. Her identical sister, CITY OF RICHMOND, was bound down the bay. With-out warning, the two met near the mouth of the Potomac, CITY OF RICHMOND plowing into the port side forward of CITY OF ANNAPOLIS. Passengers and crew of Annapolis were quickly transferred to her sister ship and within a short time, CITY OF ANNAPOLIS went to the bottom of 70 feet of water.
