Return to Hollywood
Remembrance #3
I was photographing in Hollywood cemetery at dawn where my Dad always wanted to be buried. I have found his family members site (great uncle) that I have posted before. This place has always been sacred and a source of reflection for me but the thought of holding real estate after your time on this planet seems silly to me with all the ruins among us created during our life time.
This week our young friend is in pain from the loss of an even younger family member which Althea and I have been reflecting on, along with all the wonderful family and friends we have lost through the years.
Another note, I noticed that beautifully completed, “A $140,000 restoration project now underway at the cemetery.
175 monuments in and around “President’s Circle” are being restored.
Soon, you’ll see a granite walkway with curbs and columns.
Plus, new trees and landscaping will be planted to help beautify the area.
Construction crews are putting a row of cremation boxes in near the “President’s circle,” to help offset the cost of this huge undertaking.”
The highlight was seeing Martin Gonzalez of La Milpa and David James my favorite local film maker. The rest was an exercise in patience and heat endurance. The thing about the Dell is the beautiful stonework heats up during the day and acts like an oven even sitting in a camping chair. I’m still recovering. I guess everybody did the best as possible considering the 101 degree heat today. I really wasn’t thinking to clearly when I was filming this.
Illumination #2
Spielberg casting call

I went for the cattle call for extras for the Lincoln film mainly because alot of people suggested it, and it also gives me an accuse to quit trimming my beard. I really don’t think there is anything special about my looks anymore but it did give me an opportunity to see fellow local salty dogs. I was in line with this wonderful man Larry with a big personality who was gracious enough to let me photograph him. Larry is a local juggler, magician, and southern wizard.
