You are correct. I never paid much attention to this tree before but now that I just Googled the images, all kinds of things are made from this beautiful wood including bowls, coffee tables, rifle stocks, knife handles and etc.
Osage Orange is one of the hardest woods. A real tool killer. In Texas they call it bois d’arc (bow-dark). Our old friend Roto bro has it growing all over the place. I avoid using it for woodworking because I don’t like having to constantly sharpen and replace my cutting tools and saw blades. It’s a real tool killer, as I said.
beautiful! i collected them last fall on a hike, and had them all over my steps. are they osage oranges?
